Comic Cons and other Fun....
I've been thinking back recently on the times when I used to go to the San Diego Comic Convention. From the ripe age of 11 years old, I can remember going to that convention and meeting artists that I admired. Folks like Bob Layton and Carmine Infantino. The convention wasn't even at the San Diego Convention Center back then. I don't think it was even BUILT back then.
However, I digress. I recall the convention progressively getting more notice as the years rolled on. Something I was excited about and also concerned about. However, in the early to mid 90's, the convention was at a good peak. A little bit of Hollywood mixed in with a ton of talented creators. Some toys and exclusives mixed with a nice dose of comic talk. The early 2000's rolled by and now I had more of a cadre of friends and associates (even girlfriends of the time) to go to these 'cons.
Now, since I've been away from America for a while, I think back to those times and reminisce on how life was a little more simpler.
I especially miss a good friend of mine that I met during my college years. He was a bit older than me, but like minds, well....think alike. He and I got along like Jelly and PB. We went to many a conventions and saw many a wonderous things that our favorite rivaling companies were about to release in the forthcoming months. Good times. I miss those days.

Observance...
My wife and I had a wonderful Easter Day with her family. Church, grilling on the BBQ grill, then getting the chance to ink a couple of Jack and Hunter strips. I'm typing this now with both of them laying on the floor near me (plus our other little terror - miniature Beagle) and I think back how fortunate my wife and I are to have such quirky canine in our lives.

Blast from the Past 6

Back at you with another Spider-Man pic. I must've liked Spidey and TMNT a LOT back in the day. These days, my all time favorites have been The Flash, Iron Man, and Booster Gold. I'm really glad that The Flash is finally getting the recognition he rightfully deserves and that Iron Man is now a household name.
Booster Gold, it seems, will be getting some come-up'ens soon in DC's Legends of Tomorrow series. Sounds exciting and I hope he's done some justice. I'd love to see what kind of costume they'd put on him.

Blast from the Past Part 5
Been super busy the past couple of days. Also, had a huge wind storm last night that kept me awake longer than it really should have. So, another picture from the "blast from the past" series. I'm assuming I must've been trying to mimic (poorly) either Todd McFarlane or Eric Larson on SPider-Man. Ugh......what a picture.

Opinion: Comic Books
What is all the rage these days? Comic book movies. Well, it's been the "rage" since Bryan Singer's first X-Men movie, I suppose. Even before then, the Blade movies with Wesley Snipes as the lead Day Walker.
In my youth, comics were looked at as a children's hobby. A phase in adolescence that should pass once the reader learns of the opposite sex. Yes, I learned of the opposite sex but I still read comics off and on throughout the years. I was reading books like Richie Rich and Hot Stuff when I had moved back to America from Japan at the ripe age of 6. I then graduated to a more sophisticated palate of Archie Comics. I learned that teenage life might be better if I had a friend like Jughead (LOL).
We didn't have too many comic book stores when I was in my early teens. But, I remember riding with one of my best friends (who still is to this day) on our bikes to our local comic book store. Granted, that local store was about 5 miles one way on bike. But, we were kids, we liked books like Groo the Wanderer and Amazing Spider-Man. I believe my first Spider-Man comic was Amazing Spider-Man #281.
But, what changed comic books from being a geek hobby to mainstream? Are the geeks finding their voice and saying, "It's okay to be who I am."? Or, are the marketing departments in Hollywood movie studios saying, "This is an untapped market that can make us trillions of dollars."? Who knows. All I know is that is tres chic to be a geek and I'm happy to watch The Flash on TV once again.

Blast from the Past Part I
I guess you could say that I was a fan of the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles when I was a boy. It wasn't necessarily because I liked the characters themselves, but because of the way they were drawn. In these "Blast from the Past" posts, you'll see a fair share of TMNT stuff. Enjoy! There will be more to come.

The Return.
Hi all, thanks so much for checking in. I know it's been a long time since I've come on here and blogged. I've been away for the past year and half teaching English as a Second Language in another country. Well, now I'm back and ready to start writing and creating again.
For now, I'll be posting pictures that I had drawn when I was a little boy (probably in my teens). Some still hold up, others are down right horrible, others are just there. Hope you enjoy this bit down memory lane with me.
